Thursday, August 26: COMPANY B JAZZ BAND with Sue Gould & Jane Fearing

Company B Jazz Band, a Vancouver-based 6-piece group in the style of the Andrews and Boswell Sisters, rouses crowds for dancing and smiles with their cheerful renditions of classic repertoire from the 1920s through 1940s (with a little bit of the '10s and a little bit of the '50s in there too!). Loaded with personality, the harmonies of the female vocal trio are well-complemented by top-notch instrumentalists. The band makes it their mission to capture the style and the spirit of the music of the first half of the 20th century, but there is also an undeniable youth and freshness to their sound and their stage presence.

Featured with Company B are homegrown faves Sue Gould & Jane Fearing. This will be a stunning evening of gorgeous melodies sung by some wonderful vocalists to some great swing band rhythms. What a way to close out the summer!

Swiss Guides Exhibit - Golden Museum - Runs through until the end of August

The Golden Museum is honoured to have been selected to be the first institution outside of the lower mainland to host the new exhibit, Swiss Guides: Shaping Mountain Culture in Western Canada. Created this spring the exhibit illustrates the remarkable history of Swiss Mountain guides and Swiss skiers in the Canadian Rocky, Columbia and Costal Mountains.

The exhibit which includes three one-sided printed panels, ten two-sided printed panels and showcases of historic and new climbing equipment is open now at the Golden Museum and runs through August.

Art Gallery of Golden presents The Art of Gyotaku (Fish Rubbing) by Mya DeRyan - July 2 through September 1

Mya DeRyan is one of a precious few professional practitioners of the ancient Japanese art form of Gyotaku. Literally translated Gyotaku means "fish rubbing".

Through years of experimentation and self exploration Mya has developed innovative techniques and media that allow her to pull intricate detail from her subjects, while retaining the artistic expression that puts her work at the forefront of Gyotaku artistry.

With works hanging on the walls of fine art collectors world wide, and private commissions of their own trophy fish hanging on the walls of spor tfishermen, Mya's work has transcended the boundaries of traditional art. It serves not only as expressive and intricately crafted fine art, but as Gyotaku was first intended so long ago, documentary artwork of a fisherman's trophy. Some have called it a "wife approved" alternative to taxidermy.

Come to Spirit Square Down by the Bridge. Rain location in Civic Centre - the show will go on and still free! Spread the word! We kick it off at 7pm - sharp!!!!
